What Should an Actor Portfolio Include? A Practical Casting Guide

An actor portfolio is not a photo album. It should quickly answer two questions: how do you read on camera, and what kinds of roles can casting teams realistically imagine you in?

1. Start with a clear current headshot Use a recent image with simple lighting and no filters that alter your features.

2. Show range without repetition A selected headshot, mid-length, full-length and a few strong professional images are usually more useful than many similar photos.

3. Keep the showreel focused Lead with your strongest performance. Avoid long intros before the viewer sees your acting.

4. Include decision-useful information City, languages, accents, experience, skills and travel flexibility can affect casting fit before anyone opens a chat.

5. Update instead of stacking A current image and one strong scene are better than a large archive of outdated material.
