Choosing an actor for an advertisement starts with the role's function in the idea, not with browsing photos for a visually attractive face.
1. Define the character Clarify approximate age, personality, language or accent and the performance tone required.
2. Match the audience An actor who feels right for a youth campaign may not be the right choice for a financial or family-focused product.
3. Review performance, not only photos For dialogue or expressive roles, request a showreel or short self-tape when useful.
4. Build a focused shortlist Compare a small group using the same criteria: fit, performance, availability, city and travel flexibility.
5. Keep the brief stable If the role changes materially, update the brief or start a new round rather than judging applicants against hidden new criteria.
