Not every restaurant or cafe shoot needs on-camera talent. The decision depends on the communication goal.

Product-only content may not need talent If the goal is simply to show food or the venue, product and location photography may be enough.

Add talent when you need a story or experience Friends at a table, a customer journey, a family occasion, staff interaction or a short scenario can make talent central to the message.

Actor or model? If the scene needs dialogue, performance or reactions, an actor is usually more suitable. If it is primarily visual presence and simple movement, a model may fit. See actor vs model casting.

Define headcount and roles Do not ask for “several models” only. State number of people, approximate age range, dialogue needs and scene type.

Think about usage Menu images, Meta ads, TikTok videos, outdoor campaigns and seasonal content can require different talent choices.

Bottom line Use talent when human presence, story or emotion adds something product-only photography cannot.
